Held to be one of the largest Romanesque churches of Germany, the cathedral, although rebuilt in 1945, has retained its original silhouette (11C-12C). Inside, the Baroque stuccowork of the chancel contrasts with the Romanesque nave. The Altar of the Apostles was designed in 1967 to house three Riemenschneider sandstone sculptures (early 16C), the tombs of the prince-bishops and the treasure.
