Cannaregio and the Ghetto
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
City and village
The Michelin Guide's review
Away from the busy centre, the district of Cannaregio offers some charming strolls, either along the canal of the same name or following the tranquil broad quays lined with colourful houses and workshops. This working-class sestiere in the north of the city is also home to the Ghetto, the West's first Jewish quarter, where the tall houses have a fortress-like appearance. To the south-east, not far from San Marco, the houses are built closer together and the visitor can admire a number of fine palaces, such as the stunning Ca' d'Oro.
