Well worth the diversions
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Nigra gate is the largest Roman edifice on German soil. The gateway (late 2C) was designed for military use to defend the northern ramparts: only the upper storeys are equipped with blind arches. In the 11C the fortified gateway flanked by two towers was transformed into a two-storey church, dedicated to St. Simeon. All that remains today is the apse and the remnants of some Rococo sculptures.
