The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1124 in front of the cave where Saint Amand lived in the 6C, the Augustinian abbey, which encompasses the village church, declined during the wars with the English and was later turned into a highly effective fortress. Behind its imposing architecture, the nave is depicted by pure lines and a simple décor. Its defensive role can be appreciated in the gallery encircling the chancel, the lookout niches and the firing holes at the base of the cupola.
