The Michelin Guide's review
This stone fort was built between 1830 and 1847 by the Hudson's Bay Company to replace district headquarters at Upper Fort Garry. An important company post until 1911, the fort received furs bought from the First Nations people which were then transported by boat every summer to York Factory on Hudson Bay. These wooden-hulled boats were much larger and more unwieldy than canoes, but they could be sailed across lakes.
