Surrounded by venerable houses graced with colourful and ornate wooden balconies, Santa Fé de Antioquia's main square is organised around the statue of Bolívar and a 450 year-old fountain. A bronze statue was erected in honour of Juan del Corral, famed for his interventions in favour of the independence of Antioquia. On wooden stalls in the middle of the square, pulpa de tamarindo is sold: an acidulous sweet made with tamarind grown in the valley.
