Rongjiang ("river of banyans") bears the name of a tree sacred to many of the ethnic groups in the area. Home to a huge market, this dusty, noisy city makes a good base for exploring the region, from the Miaoling mountains to the Mountains of the Moon. In the heart of this isolated area in the district of Rongjiang, explore Miao, Dong and Shui villages and admire the grandiose scenery which changes colour with the passing seasons.
