Prague Castle: Northern Gardens
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Park or garden
The Michelin Guide's review
The Royal Gardens, developed during the reigns of Ferdinand I and Rodolph II, are home to many fragile plant species and exotic animals. It is here that the tulip, imported from Constantinople, was first acclimatised to European soils. The gardens have been modified on numerous occasions, either to follow changing fashions or as a result of war damage. Originally laid out in formal French style, they were re-planted in the 19C to follow a more natural design. An ideal place for a pleasant stroll.
