The Michelin Guide's review
The wall, built from 122 AD on the orders of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, stretches for 117km from the North Sea to the Irish Sea. Sections of the wall can still be seen today, studded with museums and vestiges of camps and settlements. These give an idea of what civilian and military life would have been like on the northwestern frontier of the Roman Empire.
