The Michelin Guide's review
Founded in 1593, the botanical gardens of Montpellier, the oldest in France, have temperate and tropical greenhouses and contain a variety of Mediterranean trees (nettle trees, green oaks etc.). In the southern part, 3,000 species of plants grow in the botanical garden which illustrates the "systematic school" of Candolle (19C), devoted to the study of plant classification.
