The Michelin Guide's review
In the Salzach Valley, Maulbronn Monastery (Kloster Maulbronn), with its rampart walk, calls to mind a small fortified village from the Middle Ages. Founded in the 12C, this is one of the most complete and well-preserved medieval monasteries north of the Alps. Don't miss the church, which illustrates the transition from Romanesque to Gothic, or the cloister. The Gothic-style monastery buildings are located in a Renaissance castle.
