Macau residents used to come and walk by the sea along the Avenida da Praia Grande, a promenade lined with banyan trees. This avenue still boasts some of the finest Colonial buildings in Macau, the most striking of which is the luxurious Palácio do Governo (19C), its light pink façade visible from afar. It is still very pleasant to stroll there, especially at sunset, although since the reclamation the sea has been transformed into a lake.
