Southwark
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
City and village
The Michelin Guide's review
Now appropriated by City bankers and business people, Southwark experienced rapid industrialisation with the building of bridges, development of docks and the arrival of the railway. It was largely rebuilt after the Second World War, and is today a mix of historic and modern buildings. Extending along the south bank of the river, the borough of Southwark's mood of vitality is underpinned by the lively London Bridge City and Hay's Galleria (to the east of London Bridge).
