Lednice Palace
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The origins of Chateau Lednice go back to medieval times, when it defended the trade route between Austria and Moravia. Altered countless times, it owes its current neo-Gothic guise to the restoration works commissioned in 1846 by the Liechtenstein family. The palace, remarkable for its decoration of carved wood, is home to a superb library. The highlight of the visit has to be the splendid grounds, with their formal gardens, 92m-long greenhouse, a park complete with a minaret, and a 34ha lake dotted with small islands.
