The huge harbour of Le Havre stretches out for nearly 30km/20mi in a maritime channel capable of accommodating immense cargo and container ships. Some of its outstanding architectural features include François I lock, one of the most ambitious projects of its kind in the world, which links the sea to the network of canals, including the Grand Canal du Havre, by keeping the water level constant.
