Syros is like a whole country in miniature: a capital with two cathedrals (Catholic and Orthodox), a deep-sea harbour, a still active shipyard, an airport, mountains, a wild coastline, inlets and beaches, resorts, fertile plains... But Syros is also at a remove from the main tourist trail, a paradise for hikers in the north and heaven for beach-lovers in the south, where the finest beaches are to be found.
