The Michelin Guide's review
This is one of the country's most remarkable old churches, the construction of which would appear to have been completed between 1670 and 1671. The roof, with a design resembling an upturned ship's hull, is the bold work of the French architect and Jesuit, Philippe Lemaire. The fact that Philippe Lemaire had worked as a carpenter in shipyards in England, Portugal and Brazil explains its impressive appearance.
