The Michelin Guide's review
Cape Elizabeth and its rocky coastline make for a lovely excursion that gives you the opportunity to see the Portland Head Lighthouse. Commissioned by President Washington in 1790, it was the first lighthouse in service on the Maine coast. It was immortalised in a painting by Hopper, Portland Head Light (1927). A walk along the trail offers an incredible view of the lighthouse, the ocean and the islands.
