The Michelin Guide's review
Inaugurated on 13 August 2011, 50 years after the Wall went up, this memorial bears witness to divided Berlin, and is the only remaining section of the Berlin Wall that is preserved in its entirety with the interior wall, fortifications, watch towers and death strip intact. Visitors can observe it from a panoramic tower housing a documentation centre, which contains numerous and moving archive documents. Just next to the centre is the Chapel of Reconciliation (Kapelle der Versöhnung), built in 2000 on the site of a church that was left stranded in this vast no man's land and knocked down by the GDR authorities in 1985.
