Mont Avala
Michelin Guide
Natural site
The Michelin Guide's review
A mountain standing 18km from Belgrade city centre, Avala, a place for picnics and forest walks, has been a nature reserve since the 19C. The Monument to the Unknown Hero at the top of the mountain was erected in honour of those who fought in the First World War. Also worth a visit is the imposing Avala Tower: bombed by NATO and since rebuilt, this TV tower has come to symbolise the mountain.
