Brewers' Canal (Brouwersgracht)
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This peaceful canal, named for the numerous breweries that operated on its banks in the 17C and 18C, is dotted with picturesque bridges. Today the former warehouses have been beautifully restored and turned into housing. Some are adorned with the city's coat of arms or named after distant towns, memories of the maritime expeditions of local sailors. Near the bridge, at the confluence of Brouwersgracht and Prinsengracht, there is fine house with a double stepped gable, now home to a café.
