Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The original Great Mosque, erected in 742, was superseded by the current building, which only dates from 1374. At first glance, the Chinese architecture makes the mosque difficult to distinguish from a Buddhist temple, despite the fact that it is one of the largest Muslim buildings in China. Visitors will enjoy its calm and contemplative atmosphere of its extensive gardens. Non-Muslims can stroll through the large central courtyard and catch a glimpse of the prayer halls inside, but are not allowed to enter them.
