Castelvecchio
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1354 by Cangrande II, Castelvecchio is connected to the other side of the River Adige by the Ponte Scaligeroa, a fine example of 14C military architecture. From the garden (free entry), you can admire the famous statue of Cangrande I della Scala which watches over the building. The castle is home to the Museo di Castelvecchio, a stunning example of modern museum architecture designed by the architect Carlo Scarpa.
