The highly reputed Miguel Alvarez del Toro Zoological Park, devoted to Chiapas wildlife, was established in a 100ha park crisscrossed by little streams. Certain animals roam free here such as the monkeys, pheasants, guaqueques (pacas) and squirrels. One of its most unusual dwellers is the quetzal, the emblematic bird of Guatemala with a reputation for wasting away in captivity.
