Austria's deepest lake (191m), Traunsee is more particularly wild and romantic on its eastern shore, presided over by the remote summit of Traunstein (1 691m). The small town of Traunkirchen occupies a splendid, peaceful location. From the peninsula jutting into the lake, there are magnificent views.
