The Michelin Guide's review
In the north of the Japanese Alps and Chubu-Sangaku National Park, this quite unique route unfolds to reveal breath-taking alpine landscapes. Linking Tateyama station to that of Shinano-Omachi (Nagano prefecture), the park is only accessible by public transport (funicular railway, bus, trolley bus, cable car). Ideally, allow two days and go for a hike too. Must-see sites include the snow walls and Mount Tateyama (3,015m/9,891ft) at Murodo, and Kurobe dam.
