The figure of César Manrique is closely linked to Lanzarote and the development of its tourist industry, in which he invested no small amount of his artistic talent. He instigated the regulations that were to curb speculation and urban development on the island. The Fundación, established in his amazing home, built above and inside five volcanic bubbles formed during eruptions in the 18C and linked by corridors cut into the basalt rock, exhibits his work and collection of contemporary art.
