The peace treaty between Russia and Japan was signed in the Choraku-ji on 15 October 1854. This flower-filled little spot has plenty of charm. The small museum has a few historical souvenirs and religious artefacts. From the temple, stroll along Perry Road and its little canal lined with pretty houses, see the bust of Perry and the restaurant Anchokuro, which Okichi ran for a time (some of her personal items remain inside).
