Visitors can gawk at marine mammals and watch scientists at work, leaving with the feeling that the animals are there for their own good, not just for entertainment. One of the special features of the building is a rust-proof zinc exterior that is flexible enough to move with the steel structure should other earthquakes occur; another is the only escalator on the Kenai Peninsula.
