Situated to the east of the port, Oud Scheveningen is the hub of the old town. It has retained its church, a shopping street (Keizerstraat) and a few alleyways lined with narrow fishermens' houses. A memorial to local fishermen who lost their lives at sea is marked on the Strandweg by the statue of a woman in traditional costume looking out across the water.
