The Michelin Guide's review
The Mercado São José, Recife's main market, is housed beneath an iron structure, the first of its kind in Brazil, imported from Europe in 1875. Its 3 500m2 surface is not large enough and stands have spilled over into the surrounding streets. This market is dedicated to food products, but also proposes a wide choice of crafts at unbeatable prices.
