Sacré-Coeur Basilica
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The Sacré-Coeur basilica was built where the social movement known as the Commune de Paris started in 1871 and where it was violently put down two months later by the Versaillais. This turned it into the symbol of the bourgeois oppression of the Parisian revolutionary working classes. Under the command of architect Paul Abadie (1812-1884), building began in 1876 and would only end in 1914. Since its consecration in 1919, faithful believers have kept up the constant vigil of Perpetual Adoration.
