Piazza Marina is the centre of the medieval city. It is the site of the Garibaldi Garden, where amazing ficus magnolioides grow, with thick aerial roots as big as tree trunks. Around the square, there are some fine palaces: Palazzo Galletti, Palazzo Notarbartolo and in particular Palazzo Chiaramonte-Steri.
