Abbey of Marcilhac-sur-Célé
Michelin Guide
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Abbaye St Pierre was founded in the early 9C by the Benedictines of Moissac. It became independent in the 10C, gained in power, expanded in the 11C and 12C and enjoyed remarkable prosperity up until the 14C, which marked a turning point to less favourable times. While the chapter house dates from the 12C, the abbey church is part Romanesque and part Gothic. Today, the village is actively breathing new life into this historic sanctuary, with cafés, exhibitions, concerts etc.
