The Michelin Guide's review
Located between Arles and Avignon, the Alpilles chain is a geological extension of the Luberon, divided into the Alpilles des Baux to the West and the Alpilles d'Eygalières to the East. The villages (Les Baux-de-Provence, Fontvieille, Maussane, etc.) are full of the scent of thyme, rosemary and lavender. The picturesque markets here, set amongst vineyards and oil presses, exude the fragrances of Provence. Since 2007, the Alpilles regional nature park has tried to preserve the particular identity of the place by ensuring its economic development.
