The Michelin Guide's review
This educational museum is devoted to the terrible 7.2-magnitude earthquake on January 17 1995. At 5.46am, 6,424 lives were lost, tens of thousands injured and billions of dollars of destruction caused in just 20 seconds. A film simulation on a giant screen and a life-size reconstruction of the devastated streets give you the impression of witnessing the event in real time and leave most of us rather shaken by this realistic rendering. Another equally gripping film chronicles the events just after the quake.
