Former colonial quarter, Ho Chi Minh City
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
City and village
The Michelin Guide's review
The former colonial district is bordered to the east by the Saigon River. It is here that you can see the main buildings that hark back to French presence in the city: City Hall or Hôtel de Ville, Municipal Theatre and Central Post Office. To reach them, head along Nguyen Hue or Dong Khoi, lined by new galleries and trendy bars and restaurants. As for Nguyen Hue, this long avenue built in the 19C on a filled-in canal and transformed into a pleasant promenade is a showcase of development in Saigon.
