The Michelin Guide's review
A walk round the historic district of Fort-de-France, which is just behind the port, will unveil a host of picturesque traditional wooden houses and colonial buildings, such as the spruce Pavillon Bougenot, dating from 1887, and the Maison Saint-Cyr, in the lively shopping Rue Victor Hugo. In the heart of the district lies the Place de la Savane, a delightful, relaxing garden. To the far south stands St Louis Fort, a citadel built in 1674, which has retained many vestiges of its glorious past.
