The Michelin Guide's review
In the early 15C, with his design for the Foundling Hospital, Brunelleschi marked the beginning of a return to the Ancient classical style, heralding the era of Renaissance architecture. The light, geometric buildings are fronted by an elegant portico composed of nine semicircular arches supported by slender columns. In 1463, Andrea della Robbia decorated the arches with a frieze of touchingly fresh medallions. The hospital is now home to a rich collection of art housed in the MUDI museum which opened in 2016.
