This castle is situated right at the top of the mountain, overlooking the sea and the plain. It was built by the Normans but the site has been occupied since Antiquity. The temple of Venus Eryx, a particularly revered goddess, was once located on this very site. The fortress is surrounded by solid walls and protected by its natural position and by the bailiff's towers at the front.
