Duffus Castle
Michelin Guide
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This fortress standing on the fertile plain of the Laich of Moray shows what could have been a motte-and-bailey castle. The 12C feudal motte, crowned by a stone keep (early 14C) is separated from the exterior plateau by a deep ditch. The whole complex is defended by a circular exterior ditch. Thanks to its man-made foundations, part of the tower has survived.
