In view of the speed at which increasingly ambitious constructions pop up on the skyline, the Dubai World Trade Centre could almost be classed a historical monument. This, the first of Dubai's skyscrapers (1979), stands 149m tall and remains - with its prophetic beehive architecture - a hub of activity.
