Set in a volcanic crater, the abandoned infrastructure of these former salt pans forms an eye-catching backdrop. The system for transporting salt to the port - skips and trolleys sliding along ropes - is testament to a bygone era. Swimming in the pools is allowed, not unlike at the Dead Sea. The high salt content makes it possible to almost sit in the water. A small centre offers salt-based treatments and massages.
