Since 2007, the Monte Gordo Natural Park has been protecting the surroundings of the highest point on the island (alt. 1 304m): high altitude forests, rivers, endemic species... This untamed, inhabited territory, criss-crossed by waymarked hiking trails, is undoubtedly benefiting from Cape Verde's most successful conservation programme.
