Monarch is the restaurant for that special date or celebration; for when you want to put on your best gear and make the evening a special one. If you’re a good planner or willing to promise to spend a certain amount, you could even secure one of the window tables that take advantage of its perch on the 49th floor of The National and the far-reaching views. The menu runs the gamut from Italian to American and includes plenty of steaks and premium seafood. Concentrate when ordering though, otherwise you might end up paying a king’s ransom. Wood-fired dishes are the specialty, whether whole branzino, tiger prawns or chicken; pasta dishes like short-rib Bolognese are also good; and the wine list is a weighty tome with all the big names.
